Android 1.6 (Donut) being pushed to users
It is earlier than expected, some Android handsets (T-mobile has confirmed G1 and myTouch 3G) will get the OTA (over the air) update as soon as today. No news for the rest of qualified handsets yet.
The new 1.6 update has a number of improvement, namely:
- Quick search box (a.k.a. universal search).
- Camcorder functionality.
- CDMA support.
- Various screen sizes support.
- VPN.
- Battery usage indicator.
- Speed improvement.
The rest of us who are holding on to the non-qualified handsets, we have to wait for the updates from manufacturers or the cooked ROMs from hackers.
