Google Nexus One – to buy or not to buy

After one day of struggling, I finally made the decision and ordered the Google Nexus One.  The country I am staying, Singapore, is one of the four countires that Google will ship the phone to.

I am currently using HTC Hero.  Although I am quite happy with the Sense interface, but I am not satisfied with its speed and the lagging.  I was hoping to get the HTC Bravo when it is available, but I am tempted by the Nexus One and I will abondon the Hero earlier and I will use Nexus One.

It took me a while before I made the decision.  HTC Sense is a nice add on to the Android but the problem is it takes a long time for HTC to upgrade it from one Android version to another.  For example, my current HTC Hero, although it has been announced the it will get Android 2.1 in 1st half of 2010, but that’s after months when Android 2.1 it becomes available.  I am still stucked with the dated Android 1.5 and I am losing a lot of new functionalities available on new Android version like 1.6 and 2.0.  I guess it must be hard for HTC as Google is pumping a lot of resources into Android development and new version comes out fast.  With Nexus One, I will miss HTC Sense, but I think Google will be releasing new version of Android in high speed that will keep me happy and surprised very often.

The other reason for me is that the Nexus One has a very good and promising hardware specs – the 1GHz Snapdragon, 3.7″ AMOLED 800×480 capacitive touch screen, 5 Megapixels camera with LED Flash.  And it is also reported that people found a chip inside it that is capable of doing FM radio transmitting and receiving.  It is definitely an almost perfect hardware for me.  And I believe whatever future version of Android and add-on can be loaded into it.  And I am sure it will be the first one to get official Android new releases.

I can’t wait for Bravo, I believe it will come in May or June, based on the releasing date of Sense on Android 2.1 which HTC said it will be available around that time.  I think Bravo will be released slightly before that time.  And I don’t think I want to wait.  Although I will miss the multitouch but I think someone will come out with ideas to get it work on Nexus One soon.

Well, I won’t go for HD2 because it is a Windows Mobile 6.5.  I will reconsider a WinMO phone when Windows Mobile 7 is released.  iPhone?  No, I owned one before (and my wife is still using the 3GS), but I want a phone that can do multitasking and more “open”.

That’s all, I went to the site http://www.google.com/phone and ordered my Nexus One.  Hopefully I will receive it by next week in Singapore and I shall give you some of my thoughts when I receive it.
