Nokia N900 hacked to dual boot into Android

It’s a matter of time. Nokia’s Maemo platform, the N900, has been hacked to allow dual boot into Android. The video below is showing the device is hacked to offer booting into Android. Although nothing much (no instruction of how to do this) has been shown in the video, but we are there will be more information coming soon and the N900 owners will able to enjoy both OSes on a single device soon.

Nokia promises to improve the user experience for their phones in 2010

During a recent Nokia press release, the Nordic telecommunication giant promises to deliver handsets that will have significant user experience improvement.

In the press release, Nokia outlines:

Improve our user experience;
Re-engineer our Symbian user interface; deliver a major product milestone before mid-year 2010, and another major product milestone before the end of 2010;
Deliver our first Maemo 6-powered mobile computer, with an iconic user experience, in the second half of 2010;
Significantly increase the proportion of touch and/or QWERTY devices in our smartphone portfolio;
Scale up our Services business by expanding geographically and in partnership with more operators;
Provide third party developers with better tools to create applications and content for our Ovi ecosystem;
Further optimize the industry’s lowest cost end-to-end business model in Mobile Phones; and
Continue to build on our affordable and localized services offerings for emerging market consumers.

Engadget has a video of the webcast from Nokia and it shows some of the screens from the future Symbian and Maemo devices from Nokia. In the video, Nokia says the problem is the UI, not the OS (Symbian). Take a look after the break.

Nokia N900 is available now in US

The much anticipated Nokia N900 has landed in US, with a suggested retailed price of USD649.

This Linux based Maemo 5 device from Nokia has been generating a lot of interest on the net. It has 32Gb of storage and 5 megapixel camera, and comes with standard 3G, wife and GPS.

Nokia has decided to use US as its first stop. And we will the latest weapon from Nokia will save them from its declining market share of smartphone.

Amazing Nokia N900 multitasking

We have this video from Mobiletechworld showing Nokia N900 (Maemo) running 12 apps at the same time, with music in the background. And it is running smoothly without much lag. Apperantly, Nokia engineers are working hard on this and it is something Android, Windows Mobile and Apple engineers can learn from.

Nokia has started to ship N900 Maemo

Nokia Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said in a speech the company started deliveries of the N900 yesterday.

N900 is a key product from Nokia to fight in the smartphone market with devices like iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Android. This high end phone from Nokia is loaded with a Nokia’s Linux based OS called Maemo. Together with wifi, 3G, GPS, 5 Megapixel camera, 800×480 touch screen and a sliding QWERTY keyboard, the N900 is aimed at professional and high end users.

It will be too early to tell whether N900 will capture back some of the smartphone market, but it is surely a device to look forward to.

At CTIA, Nokia demoes its upcoming N900 Internet tablet, powered by Linux and Maemo. The device has a sliding QWERTY keyboard, resistive touch screen, interesting widgets, visual task manager, and many others. View the video below:

SNES on Nokia N900

Wow, even before Nokia‘s N900 officially hits the market, Konttori has got his hand on the device. And he managed to install SNES emulator on it. He even ported the wiicontrol to run on it and he is able to use the wii remote control to play the game. TV out is working as well.

Before you buy a Nokia N900 Maemo 5 device when it hits the street, make sure you read this extremely detailed review from mobile-review. The review includes a big array of screenshots as well as covering most of the aspects of the device.

The device will look familiar to the owners of N800, N810. However, the Maemo platform has been under a major overhaul by Nokia, hoping to bring a good alternative smart device to the market.

Before enjoying the reading, there are some of the highlighted features you may want to note:

Process management looks like webOS card view.
It handles GSM and VoIP calls in a similar way and this make it a very VoIP friendly device.
MMS isn’t supported.
It support Exchange ActiveSync. With the Google Sync lately, you might be able to make it work with Google services.
