Google announces “Voice Actions” and “Chrome to Phone”
Aug 13th
Google has just announced 2 new cool applications for your Android 2.2 phones (yes, only Android 2.2) – Voice Actions and Chrome to Phone.
Voice Actions is an extended version of your current voice commands for Android and it comes with a lot more commands, including voice to email and SMS. The commands are listed below:
- send text to [contact] [message]
- listen to [artist/song/album]
- call [business]
- call [contact]
- send email to [contact] [message]
- go to [website]
- note to self [note]
- navigate to [location/business name]
- directions to [location/business name]
- map of [location]
Chrome to Phone is not exactly new. However, it is made official now by Google. Basically you can install the program in your Android phone, add the extension to your Chrome browser (or Firefox), then you can push a number of things to your phone from the browser. You can:
- Send browser links from Chrome to your phone.
- Google Maps links launch the Google Maps application on Android.
- YouTube links launch the YouTube application on Android.
- Selecting a phone number will automatically launch the dialer with the number populated.
- Selecting text on a Web page will copy the clipboard to Android (long press a text box to paste on Android).
The video of the official Voice Actions is after the break. Enjoy!

HTC has started to push Froyo update to Desire and other phones
Aug 1st
It seems like HTC has finally please a lot of its customers. Its development team is now fast enough to catch up with the latest Android release.
HTC is now able to get its phones, like Desire, to run the latest Android release (Froyo) just less then 2 months after Google released it. And HTC has started to roll out the Froyo update to Desire users.
This is in fact a very good news to many people. I did not expect HTC to be a first one to update their phones to Froyo, given its track record.
I do hope HTC can keep up with this momentum and hopefully we will see its Gingerbread (Android 3.0) phones coming to the market soon after Google release it at the end of the end.
Sony Ericsson X10 mini and X10 mini pro get reviewed
Jul 9th
Want to buy the small Android phone X10 mini and X10 mini pro from Sony Ericsson? Looking for a review of the phones?
Engadget has just published a review for these two small phones from SE. Both phones have Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz processor, 2.55-inch 240 x 320 LCD capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel autofocus camera, microSD expansion, micro-USB port, FM radio, A-GPS, Bluetooth (with A2DP), and 802.11b/g WiFi. The only difference is that the Mini Pro has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
Both phones are Android 1.6 based, same as their big brother, X10. And according to the review, they both score pretty well. You can follow the link for the review here.
I have also include the video after the break.
