What a disappointment – Apple and iPhone 4S

Oh no! There is no iPhone 5. No bigger screen. Just the same old look and slightly better specs. And you know what I am talking about – the new iPhone 4S Apple just announced.

So what’s new?

The new A5 dual core CPU
8MP camera
Higher capacity battery?
Dual mode – GSM and CDMA

Well the more exciting part is probably the new iOS 5 that brings you some of the features like Siri (the voice recognition), notification bar, iCloud, etc. But I want an iPhone with a bigger screen!

And no, Apple, you won’t be able to make me switch from my Android to iPhone. My next phone will be either Nexus Prime or Xiao Mi’s Mi-ONE. The iPhone 4S may be my wife’s next phone if she wants to upgrade her iPhone 4.

And Apple, you better fight harder for your law suits with various Android manufacturers like Samsung and HTC, because that’s the best way to stop the growing Android market share for the moment.

Apples releases iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod

After an unexpected delay about 2 weeks ago, Apple has finally released the long awaited upgrade for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch – the iOS 4.2.

The upgrade brings some features that iPad users have been waiting for – multitasking and application folder. It also brings some new features to all devices like Air Print and Air Play. Air Print allows users to print over the air and Air Play will stream media over the air. And with this version, Apple has made the “Find my iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch” feature in MobileMe free for all users. It will allow you to locate your lost device on the web and protect the data (by remote wiping it) if needed.

Go on, upgrade your iTunes and connect your device to the computer. And enjoy!!

Apple publishes details of iOS 4.1, to be released next week

Apple has just published the details of the iOS 4.1 updates, but it will only be available next week.

This release focuses on bug fixes with some new features:

Games Center: the social gaming platform
iTunes TV show rentals: for 99 cents per episode
iTunes Ping: social capability of iTunes let let you share what you are listening and follow other people’s activities
HDR photography: which automatically combines multiple exposures into a single HDR image
HD video uploads: let you upload your HD recordings to YouTube and MobileMe

iPhone 4 gets userland jailbreak

Have got your iPhone 4 and wanting to install anything that is not allowed in App Store?

The hackers had worked hard and they are ready to bring you a preliminary jailbreak for iPhone 4. The only thing now is the freedom to install applications on the userland. Nothing can be done at the system level yet.

However, I think the day is not far.

Apple announces iPhone 4

As expected by everyone, Apple announced the new iPhone 4 during the WWDC.

Hardware wise, it is still using GSM/UMTS radio, and that’s probably why it is not called iPhone 4g. It has a front facing camera that does video calling, and a rear camera of 5 mega pixel with LED flash. The camera can do 5X digital zoom and can also record HD video at 720p / 30fpsThe display doubles the pixels in each direction (960 x 640) for a 4X overall pixel count increase and Apple calls it a “Retina Display.” It’s rated at 326ppi, which Apple claims is beyond the human eye’s limit of distinction. The size of the display is still 3.5″. The CPU is the same as the iPad which is the new A4 chip from Apple. The battery is now larger (which gives more talk time) but the thickness of the phone is actually reduced to 0.37″ due to the new engine.

The iPhone OS is now called iOS 4. The FaceTime is the new video call application bundled for the front camera. At the moment, it is wifi only. The default search engine can now be configured to use Bing and others.

The iPhone 4 will be made available in 88 countries between June 24 and September, in black and white models, 16GB or 32GB. iOS 4, detailed earlier this year, will be released June 21. The phone will be retailing at $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for 32GB in US with contract.

HTC counter sue Apple, asking to ban sale of iPhone, iPod and iPad

HTC is reacting to the legal action from Apple (suing HTC for patent infridgements).

HTC had indeed filed a lawsuit complaining patent infringement by Apple. And asking to ban sale of iPhone, iPod and iPad.

I guess if you need to survive in the games played by Apple, you have to play its game.

Apple’s WWDC is on 7th June

Mark your calendar and hold your breathe. Apple is hosting its WWDC on 7th June this year.

So what are the things to expect? We believe that Apple will be announcing its next generation iPhone (a.k.a. iPhone 4g) since iPhone 3GS was announced in last year’s WWDC. And we are expecting to see some news of the next version of Mac OSX as well.

Apple iPhone 4g loss case getting big, police seized computers and servers from Gizmodo editor

This is a bit crazy, the police of California actually got a warrant and raided Jason Chen’s house. Jason Chen is the editor of Gizmodo who reported the details of the loss iPhone 4g from an Apple employee.

The police actually broke the door of the house and went in to do the search while Jason and his wife went out for dinner. And they also seized 4 computers and 2 servers from Jason house. It sounds like a criminal case to me.

What’s the purpose of this raid? They iPhone had been returned to Apple when Apple demanded it. I guess Apple wants to ensure no other secretes have been leaked and kept by the Gizmodo editor. And the police of California is just helping to do that

The next generation of the iPhone has leaked and found its way to Gizmodo. They have examined it thoroughly and concluded that it is the real thing! They are unable to boot it but they are still able to get a lot of information out of it.

From the unit they have found, it has a front-facing video chat camera, improved regular back-camera, camera flash, micro-SIM instead of standard SIM. The display is improved as well. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×640 display thrown around before. There is a secondary mic for noise cancellation? There are 2 split volume buttons. Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic now.

The design of the phone is changed quite significantly as well. The back is entirely flat, and there is an aluminum border going completely around the outside. The screen is slightly small than 3GS. It is 3 grams heavier the 3GS but has a 16% Larger battery. The internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery.

Opere Mini gets its way to Apple App Store

Has Apple relaxed its App Store policy for not approving apps that duplicate the functionality of iPhone?

The famous Opera Mini browser has just got approved for the App Store. This browser uses server from Opera to render web pages and thus achieve a superior speed for loading of web pages. For a long time Apple has been rejecting this browser to the App Store. And it is to many people’s surprise, it finally makes its way to App Store.

Has Apple changed its policy? Or somebody accidentally approved the app?
