Android 2.1 (Flan) ported to Motorola DROID
Dec 16th
We knew it is going to come, sooner or later. Since the system image of the “Nexus One” has been leaked, it will only take a while for hacker to port it to some other device. This time, Motorola DROID wins. We have a video showing the Flan (Android 2.1) with the Nexus One bootup animation.
However, there are still a list of issues from the maker of this port:
1) Keyboard backlight is no longer functioning properly. The only way to get the keyboard to turn back on is to use the Power widget and toggle the brightness. This is a one-time fix and needs to be done repeatedly.
2) Superuser and the su binary for local root and escalated privileges no longer works (even if pushed to the device). If you drop to a terminal and execute “su” it seems like it wants to do something and then ultimately gives a “permission denied.”
3) Landscape mode app drawer acts weird. The little “home” icon on the screen is off-centered and when pressed launches the Camera application.
4) The Messaging app still notifies you of Messages even when it’s set not to.
5) The carrier shows up as T-CDMA 64
6) General, non-repeatable inconsistencies with the home screens. Issues like no longer being able to swipe to change home screens, or not being able to launch apps from the home screen.
Anyway, enjoy!

Time names Motorola DROID the gadget of the year, Apple iPhone 3GS comes in number 4
Dec 10th
Time has named Motorola DROID to be the number one of “The Top 10 Everything of 2009″.
The reasons given on the web site:
“The Droid is a hefty beast, a metal behemoth without the gloss and finish of the iPhone, but you don’t miss it. The Droid’s touchscreen is phenomenally sharp and vivid, it has an actual physical (not great, but good enough) keyboard, and best of all, the Droid is on Verizon’s best-of-breed 3G network.”
And the iPhone 3GS comes in as number 4 on the list. I guess the main reasons are there are not much changes and improvements from the previous iPhone 3G except speed and some new features.

O2 Germany starts selling Motorola MILESTONE (DROID) for 1 EURO with 2 years contract
Nov 18th
For a contract of 2 years with 20 EURO a month, the O2 Germany subscribers can take the Motorola MILESTONE (DROID) home for 1 EURO.
The deal means you are paying 481 EURO over 2 years for the phone. And it sounds like a good deal to me. I hope we can get a similar deal when it reaches Asia.
The different of MILESTONE with DROID (sold in US) are the lack of Google Navigation, but it comes with multitouch that is missing in DROID.
Go get one if you happen to be in Germany.
The link to O2 is here.
Motorola MILESTONE (DROID) getting ready for Germany
Nov 10th
After the US launch, Motorola is getting ready to launch the MILESTONE (a.k.a. DROID) in Europe. And the first stop could be O2, Germany.
The GSM version of DROID, which is called MILESTONE, has appeared on O2 Germany web site and ready to be ordered. However, the shipping date remains unknown.
The phone will come with a n 8Gb microSD card, instead of 16Gb, which pre-loaded with Motorola’s own MOTONAV navigation software instead of the Google Map for Mobile. And it is priced at 549.99 EURO.
For the rest of the world, we just have to wait.
