Nexus One gets colours for the track ball

The trackball of Google’s Nexus One is capable of displaying different colours for notifications.  During the launch the Nexus One, this was shown.  However, for some reasons, the handsets delivered to the market are not equipped (removed?) with this features.

And the Nexus One community has talent modders that were working hard to bring missing features and enhancements to Nexus One.  The latest addition is to bring the missing colours back to Nexus One.  The Nexus One owners can now have different colours for various notification for messages, emails, and even twitter updates.

The mod has been added to the latest Cyanogen mod as well.  You can view the information of the mod here.

Google has setup phone support centre for Nexus One

Google has admitted its problem of giving support over the phone to Nexus One users and promised to fix it.  And here is the solution from them.

Apparently Google has setup a phone support centre for Nexus One at 888-48-NEXUS (63987). Open daily from 7:00 am EST to 10:00 pm EST.  You can call the number to check on your existing order and status.  For the Nexus One owners, call the number for technical support.  An unnamed Google spokesperson claims that “live phone support from Google, combined with an optimized on-line support experience, enables a superior Nexus One customer experience.”

From now, you do not need to search through the forums and online FAQs to find answers for your problem.  And hopefully the people answering the calls in Google are well-trained to help you.  I have not tried yet, let me know what you think if you have tried.

First month sales figure of Google Nexus One – 80,000 units

Wondering how Google’s Nexus One is performing during its first month in the market?  Well, according to Flurry, Google sold 80,000 units of Nexus One in first month.  That’s a miserably low figure compared to many other smartphones like Apple’s iPhone and Motorola’s DROID.  But if we look at the brighter side, the first month sales figure of Nexus One is 4 times of the first week figure where there rest were just double :)

Was that an experiment from Google to test whether direct web marketing will work for a mobile phone?  Apparently it works for geeks but not the normal consumers.  And Google is moving forward to spend money on TV commercial to gain more awareness of Nexus One.  May be Google should learn from Apple.

I am sure the figure will improve.  Google is doing quite a number of things at the moment, like adding pinch-and-zoom support and working with more operators to subsidize the phone.  And we shall look at the figure again few months later.

The Nexus One online video reveals the upcoming car dock and battery charging dock

The concept and design video of Google Nexus One in Youtube channel has shown the upcoming docks for the Nexus One.

There are three shown in the video.  One of them is what has been released in the market, the standard dock.  The other two – one is the dock with an extra battery charging space, and the other is the car dock.

No price and information from Google at the moment.  However, since they are showing them off in the video, I think they are quite closed to the the release date.

Google is showing the making of Nexus One in online video series

Google has started to add a series of video showing the born of their first Android phone to the market – the Nexus One.

The first video published is about the concept and design and is narrated by Erick Tseng (Android Project Manager), Tomasz Hasinski (HTC Project Manager) and Lloyd Watts (Audience).

If you are interested to know about the design concept of the phone, do check out the Google Nexus One channel in Youtube here.  I have also attached the first video after the break.

Do expect more videos to be available in the Youtube channel in the next week or so.

Enjoy!

Nexus One desktop dock is available now from Google site

Yes, the desktop dock for Google’s Nexus One is available now.  Same as Nexus One, it is available via Google’s site and it costs USD45.

You can use the dock to charge your Nexus One or use it as a night stand.  Just drop your phone in the Desktop Dock, and the Clock app launches automatically.  With the Clock app, you can:

  • Check the local time and weather
  • Set and clear alarms
  • Watch a slideshow of your photos
  • Play music
  • Dim your phone’s display for nighttime use

There is Bluetooth connectivity built into the dock.  It is used for streaming the audio to the dock from your Nexus One.  The 3.5mm audio jack on the dock will then transmit the audio via the 3.5mm-to-RCA audio cable to the external audio system.
