We have this video from Mobiletechworld showing Nokia N900 (Maemo) running 12 apps at the same time, with music in the background.  And it is running smoothly without much lag.  Apperantly, Nokia engineers are working hard on this and it is something Android, Windows Mobile and Apple engineers can learn from.
