And guess what. The Nexus One will officially come with Android 2.2 (Froyo). I guess the official release of Froyo is just around the corner.

KT will bring in 4,000 units of Nexus One initially and there are definitely more to come. The phone will be sold at around USD576 without contract and around USD125 with 2 year contract.

I wonder which will be next in Asia to sell Nexus One.

Google started to sell its first Google branded Android phone, Nexus One, directly from its web store in January 2010. Although Google had regarded this as viable business, but the sales figures (not official, but from many other sources) are just not satisfactory to continue it.

Google had just announced that the Nexus One not be available from the web store anymore. Instead, Google will work with the carrier to sell the phone through their stores. Besides US and some European countries we have heard, it might take a while to reach your countries.

According to the official blog:

“But, as with every innovation, some parts worked better than others. While the global adoption of the Android platform has exceeded our expectations, the web store has not. It’s remained a niche channel for early adopters, but it’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone, and they also want a wide range of service plans to chose from.”

So I guess this innovative way to sell a high end phone is not workable.

the Nexus One running Android 2.1 gets about 6.5-7 MFLOPS

the HTC Hero averages a measly score of about 2 MFLOPS (the phone is pretty slow indeed)

And Nexus with FroYo is running at 37.5 MFLOPS! That is most likely the effect of the new JIT for FroYo.

That really got me excited and can’t wait for the official release of FroYo from Google.

At the moment, consumers can only buy Nexus One from Google and Huber refused to answer if Google had any plans to change its sales model for the Nexus One.

And according to Hubber, the Android Market has now 38,000 apps. However, we all know there are good numbers of themes, ringtones, etc and those are should not be qualified as “apps”.

According to them, the OTA update will include:

Better memory management with a new version of the Linux kernel to operate in short, all the device memory which is not the case today

Fixed problem MultiTouch when fingers are too close together

Activating the FM radio feature of the camera! (I guess it is the FM radio activation)

These are the things among many others that are highly wanted by many of the Nexus One users.

Well, let’s just wait for a few days to see whether this rumour will come true.

According to the post from Google:

“The dock’s built-in speakers and volume controls enhance the in-car music and media experience. The Car Home app, which loads automatically, makes it easy to access Maps and Navigation, Voice Search, Contacts, and Music.
You can mount the dock on your windshield or dashboard, and it ships with an adhesive disc that lets you attach it to non-smooth surfaces. The dock comes with a charger that fits into your car’s 12V utility socket, and the holder can rotate for flexible orientation.”

USD55 sounds like a good deal to me. If Google can add FM transmission to the dock, it would be even better. Anyway, if you are looking for a car dock that make your Nexus One a Voice Navigator, this is something to buy.

There have been quite a number of complaints about multitouch on Nexus One isn’t working properly. Robert Greeen of Battery Powered Games has created an application called Multitouch Visible Test (available in Android Market Now) for testing multitouch on phone. And he quoted: “This app shows how your phone’s hardware handles multitouch. The event data is not processed in any way. The two dots are drawn exactly where the phone reports you are touching. For many current Android phones, there will be lots of bad data including axis flipping and near-axis influence.”

However Dianna Hackborn, a Google engineer, has responded: “Sorry I meant exactly what I said: this is how the touch screen hardware on the Nexus One works (which is essentially the same screen as on the G1 and myTouch). The Droid has a sensor from a different manufacturer, with different behavior. Other phones will likewise have different sensors.”

It could mean a hardware issue on Nexus One. Shall we dump Nexus One and get a Motorola DROID?

Nexus One).

I am not sure who Bert Nordberg is trying to impress during a press conference like this. However, this does send multiple messages to the market. Did Google think that SE can make a better Nexus One than anybody else in the market in the first place? Was SE too pride to be a manufacturing subcontractor of another company? Was SE too busy making the Xperia X10 and they had no time for other things? Why did Bert Nordberg make such a comment in public when this is usually back end things?

I can’t be sure that SE actually missed an opportunity to make money because the move has to be inline with their overall strategy.

The fast port could due to the fact that the hardwares of Nexus One and Desire are very similar. The moder from Modaco is able to load the ROM extracted from HTC Desire to Nexus One with just a few modifications. Most of the things work now with some needed more work.

With these moders around, we should be expecting a ROM with HTC Sense to be available soon from the community.

How excited!
