However, the stock of iPhone was quickly snatched by thousands of iPhone fans within a few hours. All three operators require the customers to pre-register with them in order to get the new iPhone 4 from them. For example, Singtel requires customer to book an appointment with them before the customers come to get one during the launch event. However, many complained that the web site for registration was unresponsive and all the appointments were booked within a few hours.

Well, I guess most of us will still have to wait for more stock to come.

The 16Gb iPhone 4 can be yours for free if you sign up for a 2 years plan with around SGD98 per month.

HTC UNVEILS ENHANCED HTC SENSE™ EXPERIENCE ON NEW ANDROID SMARTPHONE

HTC Legend takes Android 2.1 to a new level with HTC Sense

Singapore – 25 March, 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today introduced an enhanced HTC Sense experience that will be available on its latest addition of smartphones that take Android to the next level, the HTC Legend.

“At its essence, the mobile phone is the most personal item you have in your possession. HTC Sense was created to magnify your ability to create and define your own unique mobile experience,” said Jack Tong, VP of HTC Asia. “HTC Legend takes Android to another level in both substance with HTC Sense and style with HTC Legend’s revolutionary crafted aluminum uni-body design.”

HTC SENSE
HTC Sense is a user experience focused on putting people at the centre by making phones work in a more simple and natural way. This experience revolves around three fundamental principles that were developed by observing and listening to how people live and communicate. These core tenets of Make It Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected continue to be the key to the new HTC Sense experience.

The new HTC Sense experience continues to focus on improving your interactions with your most important people. This begins with a new HTC application and widget called Friend Stream that seamlessly aggregates all of your social communication including Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr into one organised flow of updates. This simple aggregation makes it easier than ever to focus on what friends are doing as well as to view the images and links that they share. In addition to Friend Stream, people can be organised into specific social circles, such as groups of friends, colleagues or any other way that makes sense.

The new HTC Sense experience also introduces broad improvements to applications including the browser, email client and others. In addition, the new version of HTC Sense includes a new newsreader application and widget, as well as a new seven-screen ‘Leap’ thumbnail view for quick and easy access to specific screens.

HTC Legend
Built around a newly enhanced HTC Sense, the HTC Legend boasts a unique design with a smooth, continuous surface, machined from a single aluminum block into a seamless compact frame. To complement its looks, the HTC Legend includes a stunning 3.2 inch, AMOLED HVGA display. The traditional trackball has also been replaced with an optical joystick, surrounded by a narrow button to improve usability without interrupting its unique design.

Pricing & Availability
The new HTC Legend will be available in early April at all authorized resellers at a suggested retail price of S$798*. Standard retail HTC Legend package will come with a 2GB microSD™ card.

First of all, we need to pay the price for the phone, that’s USD529 + the country specific AC adaptor that costs USD19.99. We have to pay the shipping cost for USD28.32 as well. Before we get the phone, we have already paid Google USD577.31 and it is about SGD808.

Some lucky users have got the phone from Google after paying the freight forwarder SGD68 for GST, the Good and Service Tax that a consumer will have to pay to the Singapore custom when importing anything from oveseas with a high value. So the Singapore users pay around SGD876 for the phone (phew!) and it is about USD625. At the moment, the consumers in Singapore have no choice but to order it directly from Google as no operator in Singapore is selling the phone at the moment.

Well, I have ordered my last week and I have been notified that the phone is being shipped to me now. And I am expecting to get it within these 2 days. How about you? Have you ordered and gotten yours already?

If you are in Singapore and want to have the latest Google Nexus One Android phone running Android 2.1, Singapore is one of the three countries outside US (the other two are UK and Hong Kong) that Google will ship the phone to. For USD529 + shipping (around USD30) and 7% GST (I can’t confirm as I have not ordered the phone), you can get the phone from Google’s web site – http://www.google.com/phone. According to the FAQ, Google will process your order 15 minutes after you place it.

I logged in to Google’s web site and tried to order the phone but there were some issues. First, you need Google account and also Google Check Out account to order the phone but these are not the show stopper. For some reason, there are problems when creating the Google Check Out account – Singapore apparently is not on the country selection list. While selecting other countries will make the card type (credit card) dissappear. Hopefully Google will fix the problem soon.

If you are waiting for a subsidized phone from the 3 operators, SingTel, M1 and Starhub, you will have to have to wait a bit longer. There is no information on when the phone will be sold through them. At the moment, Google is only working with US and European operators. I will keep an eye on our local operators and will update you once I have more information.

For the moment, pick up your credit card and order from Google if you can’t wait and want to be the first batch of people to own the Nexus One And let me know if you are able to order one.

Update: I have found Singapoire under the country list, it is called Rep. Of Singapore.

Singapore consumers, you are now free to choose your iPhone operators. And we are seeing the prices and bundles keep changing from the 3 operators these few days. M1‘s iPhone plans were bundled with 10Gb of data originally, and now they are bundled with 12Gb of date after Singtel and Starhub increased their bundled to 12Gb. And Starhub data usage charge is capped at SGD30 (from SGD48) now, after Singtel changed the data charge to be capped at SGD30.

And I am not sure when this will end. If you are planning to buy one, I suggest you wait till everything settles down

At the end, the consumers win. And yes, Apple will win too, because the iPhone market in Singapore will now be expanded.

Singapore is the first country in Southeast Asia to get Street View and the fourth country in Asia Pacific after Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

After months of waiting since Google street view car was first spotted on Singapore’s street, we can enjoy this fantastic service provided by Google now. If you have a PC now, just launch your favourite web browser and go to http://map.google.com.sg/ and drap the little yellow man on the top left corner to any street and enjoy Singapore’s street view.

And what I did was I used my HTC Hero and launched the Google Map, long press my current position on the map and select the address box popped up and went into the StreetView. And I took a screenshot of my Hero and you can see it from my post. The compass mode works very well also. When I turned to different direction, the scene on screen will just follow my direction.

Hi guys, pick up your phones and try it out now!

The official press release of Google StreetView for Singapore is here.
