Nexus One and Singapore
Jan 6th
Frankly, I had never expected Singapore to be one of the countries to receive Google Nexus One at launch.
If you are in Singapore and want to have the latest Google Nexus One Android phone running Android 2.1, Singapore is one of the three countries outside US (the other two are UK and Hong Kong) that Google will ship the phone to. For USD529 + shipping (around USD30) and 7% GST (I can’t confirm as I have not ordered the phone), you can get the phone from Google’s web site – http://www.google.com/phone. According to the FAQ, Google will process your order 15 minutes after you place it.
I logged in to Google’s web site and tried to order the phone but there were some issues. First, you need Google account and also Google Check Out account to order the phone but these are not the show stopper. For some reason, there are problems when creating the Google Check Out account – Singapore apparently is not on the country selection list. While selecting other countries will make the card type (credit card) dissappear. Hopefully Google will fix the problem soon.
If you are waiting for a subsidized phone from the 3 operators, SingTel, M1 and Starhub, you will have to have to wait a bit longer. There is no information on when the phone will be sold through them. At the moment, Google is only working with US and European operators. I will keep an eye on our local operators and will update you once I have more information.
For the moment, pick up your credit card and order from Google if you can’t wait and want to be the first batch of people to own the Nexus One
And let me know if you are able to order one.
Update: I have found Singapoire under the country list, it is called Rep. Of Singapore.

Dec 12th
Singapore consumers, wait no more, HTC HD2 is on sale now from Stahub, Singtel and M1 now.
The launch of the HD2 is overshadowed by the iPhone war in Singapore started few days ago. The coverage from media and the operators are much lesses the iPhone. However, this super Windows Mobile 6.5 phone from HTC is still generating a lot of interest from the market. Those who preordered the phone have been collecting it from the operators. And now, it is available for general market.
The phone comes with a huge 4.3″ capacitive touch screen, a 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU and it is the first HTC Windows Mobile phone that comes wih Sense. It is top of its class.

Singapore iPhone war continues, M1 increases data bundle to 12GB, Starhub data fee capped at SGD30
Dec 10th
This is another proof that open market will benefit the consumers
When there are more competitors in the market, there will be more choices and the prices will be more competitive.
Singapore consumers, you are now free to choose your iPhone operators. And we are seeing the prices and bundles keep changing from the 3 operators these few days. M1‘s iPhone plans were bundled with 10Gb of data originally, and now they are bundled with 12Gb of date after Singtel and Starhub increased their bundled to 12Gb. And Starhub data usage charge is capped at SGD30 (from SGD48) now, after Singtel changed the data charge to be capped at SGD30.
And I am not sure when this will end. If you are planning to buy one, I suggest you wait till everything settles down
At the end, the consumers win. And yes, Apple will win too, because the iPhone market in Singapore will now be expanded.
Google StreetView is available now in Singapore
Dec 3rd
It is here, finally! Google has just made Google StreetView available in Singapore. You can now view the streets of Singapore using Google Map on your PC or on your mobile device. First launched in May 2007, Street View is hugely popular worldwide and is available in more than 100 metropolitan areas around the world. Singapore is the first country in Southeast Asia to get Street View and the fourth country in Asia Pacific after Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
After months of waiting since Google street view car was first spotted on Singapore’s street, we can enjoy this fantastic service provided by Google now. If you have a PC now, just launch your favourite web browser and go to http://map.google.com.sg/ and drap the little yellow man on the top left corner to any street and enjoy Singapore’s street view.
And what I did was I used my HTC Hero and launched the Google Map, long press my current position on the map and select the address box popped up and went into the StreetView. And I took a screenshot of my Hero and you can see it from my post. The compass mode works very well also. When I turned to different direction, the scene on screen will just follow my direction.
Hi guys, pick up your phones and try it out now!
The official press release of Google StreetView for Singapore is here.

HTC HD2 pricing from Starhub and Singtel
Nov 21st
Many of you from Singapore are waiting for the HD2 to be available but there is still no sign of it in the market.
Starhub has a small promotion advertisement on newspaper saying there is a SGD150 off if you pre-order. However, there is no other information. Someone from hardwarezone got the pricing from a promoter during the Starhub roadshow saying the phone will cost SGD498 for a basic plan without data plan.
Meanwhile, Singtel is having a pre-order site for the HD2 as well. Key in your details to reserve one from them. However, no pricing information from the site as well.
M1 to end Singtel’s monopoly, selling iPhone by end of the year
Oct 14th
Finally, M1 has reached an agreement with Apple to sell iPhone by end of this year, ending Singtel 2 year-long monopoly in Singapore market. By end of the year, Starhub, the Singapore’s number 2 operator, will be the only one who doesn’t carry the popular device.
Early Tuesday morning, M1 sent a brief statement to break the news. However, it is unclear now what price and tariff the device is going to get. M1 will announce the details in the later days.
Until now, Singtel manages to sell around 100,100 iPhone over the pass 2 years. With M1 entering to iPhone market, it is certainly a good news for M1 customers who want the device but reluctant to switch to Singtel. Starhub customers will have to wait, switch to Singtel, buy a second hand phone from Singtel customers, or get a jailbreaked phone from the market.
